Usability Testing Script

Thank you for your time and consideration to complete this usability test.

I currently work for the University and today we will be looking at a website to see how user-friendly  it performs.

Although this is called a Usability test, we are not actually testing you. We are testing how well the web site performs.

I am not the designer of this website, and there are no right or wrong answers so  feel free to be honest!

I encourage you to think outloud. This helps us understand your thought process.

Look at home page.
-When you first saw this homepage, what did you think this web site was about?

-finding off campus housing (no issues)

Questions:
1. If you are a student looking for housing, where would you go to find an available property fit to your standards.

-I would go search by location in the search engine (no issues)

2. If you are a frequent user and interested in comparing properties, where would you go about doing this?

very hesitant here.

Comparing properties... umm.... I think i would just click on the locations button and it would come up with different houses in that area so that i could compare them right?
(The response to this question was not exactly what we were looking for. We generally wanted the target user to create an account to have access to comparing properties. This is something we will have to address)

3. If you are interested in hearing reviews about a particular property, where might you find this?

-giggle... When finding reviews about a particular property i would go to featured properties.
(since the target user answered the question not the way we anticipated, we have to go about addressing this problem so the user would navigate the site correctly)

Follow Up Questions:

1. If you are a student at OSU and you wanted to create an account where would you go about doing this.
-From the home page I would click on the Sign In Button and go from there.

2. If you are interested in finding out where on campus you might want to live where might you go about doing this?

-I would click on Location (gives search results page.)

Where would you click about finding location?

-I would click on the map for more detail

3. If you wanted to find out more about our company and contacting us, how would you go about finding this?

-I would go to the about us page

4. Say you were looking for a property and just selected your standards in the search toolbar, once hitting search where do you believe this button would lead to?

-I would select number of bedrooms and price, and once i hit search i would think that a list of two bedroom apartments in the range of 600-800 dollars a month would come up.

From the listings that came up, what do you think would happen if you clicked on one of the
results  what do you think would come from there?

         - I think that a photo and a description or review of a past tenant would show up about their
          experience living in that unit.
